Tiombe Lockhart: Queen Of Doom
By Porschia Baker Buy Modalert, Unrefined, sexy and admirably creative, Tiombe Lockhart is someone to be given attention. The unsigned honeyed songstress, who is known for her collaborations with Bilal, and contributions on Detroit’s Platinum Pied Pipers’ 2005 album Triple P, as well as Waajeed Presents The War LP, recently released her own five track self-mixed EP, Queen of Doom, an airy and intense album full of Lockhart experimentations. The song “Working Girl’s Suicide,” is a favorite simply because of its penned honesty: Lockhart is still a day job working woman supporting her musical habit.

Moving from Atlanta, at a young age, to Los Angeles and on to New York, Lockhart has been singing by chance since the age of seven. Skyscraping her skills at Manhattan’s New School University, Order Modalert online legally, she is also a songwriter and producer, who continuously expands beyond her BFA degree in vocal jazz performance. As she leads a rhythm section, Lockhart absorbs inspiration and builds upon her style doing what she does best with intensity, buy Modalert. She is the Queen of Doom and she’s coming.

Nu Soul: How did you start off singing.
Tiombe Lockhart: I started off singing in Atlanta, at a Tom Thumb wedding, which is something that I still can’t understand, in the south, why they have Tom Thumb weddings. I went to this YMCA in Piedmont Park and before that I went to a YWCA by where I lived. Buy Modalert, My mom always tried to make me see a broader perspective of humanity. She’s from Michigan. She brought me to this summer camp and there was a Tom Thumb wedding and they told me the only slots were for a singer and for some weird maid of honor, bride’s maid, flower girl or some shit. I was like I don’t want to do that.

Prior to that I had been singing with my dad, we’d make car trips from Atlanta to Savannah and we’d always sing in the car.

Nu Soul: I’m a fan of Platinum Pied Piper’s Triple P. Buy Modalert, I hear your sound one way on Triple P, but when I listen to Queen of Doom it sounds completely different, but I can tell that that is just you. I can’t define your sound. So how do you define your sound.
Tiombe Lockhart: I can’t either. I hope I can take people along, from PPP, with me. I know that it’s a jump, buy Modalert. I don’t know how I can describe my sound. Some people I will literally watch like a hawk, like Iggy Pop. I will watch him performing. Buy Modalert, I’ve never seen him perform in real life, but I’ve seen videos. I sit there and watch every fucking move. Betty Carter is someone I’m completely in love with. I think that I get at lot of my phrasing from, but in terms of naming a sound or saying exactly what sound this is or genre I don’t really know. I just go from the gut. Nu Soul: So, would you consider yourself a growing artist.
Tiombe Lockhart: Oh absolutely. I think that you’re always supposed to be growing, billig kaufen Modalert. You never can know everything. You’re always wondering and trying to figure things out. That’s kind of the thing that pushes you in life to keep going and living. Nu Soul: Who is the Queen of Doom. It that a personality that you’ll take on for this album.
Tiombe Lockhart: Yes and no. Buy Modalert, Yes, it’s definitely a personality because I don’t think I’ll walk around and I’m be like ‘I’m the Queen of Doom’. I guess when people bump into me too hard I’m the Queen of Doom.

It’s definitely interesting to create a concept and write freely around it. With PPP and The Tiombe Lockhart Bootleg #1, I very much took everything literally. Like why not play with it, come up with a theme, South Carolina SC S.C. , push myself and sit outside of the box that I’m used too. Yeah, it’s definitely a personality that I’ve created, buy Modalert. At the same time, I enjoy stepping into backyard dirt because it’s very much like me.

Nu Soul: Why did you present an EP instead of a full length.
Tiombe Lockhart: I think with the Queen of Doom, to be quite honest, certain songs on there I never wanted to mix. For instance, “Single Black Female,” I came up with this concept, got my band to play it, I chopped it, I mixed it, I sung over it and I mixed it [again], “Working Girl’s Suicide” I wrote to it, did harmonies, buy Modalert pills, everything, sung to it and I had to mix it. Buy Modalert, So it was kind of like this is fine, this is okay for everyone and “Electric Bullet” I mixed it. I’m not happy with it.

Also it was an introduction to the next project that I’m working on and where I’m trying to go. I think people will find that they will stay with me or leave. You know what I means. It’s are you going to dive with me into this world or are you going to stay safe on the beach, buy Modalert.

Nu Soul: Who else are you hoping to reach, in addition to the audience you already have.
Tiombe Lockhart: I would like to reach people who are open. I hate saying certain genres, but I find that there are people in the soul world that will take the fucking leap with me, are completely open and want to fucking hear something that’s different. I would also like to reach people outside of the soul music world, but I say soul because I say soul as in a genre. Buy Modalert, I think soul music is everyone. Cheap Modalert no rx, It’s like Siouxsie and The Banshees. It’s anybody doing the shit that you can feel that shit deep in your gut. I want to reach people that know about Siouxsie and The Banshees or know about Black Lips and that know about people who will fucking head butt you. Whoever is open, whoever wants to hear some good shit, whoever can understand the rawness of it and can interpret the sexuality of it as something that they feel; something that is soul music.

Nu Soul: That’s interesting because I’ve never heard anybody describe all music as soul music because soul music is considered a genre, buy Modalert.
Tiombe Lockhart: If you think about it, you can have somebody who is doing soul music and you don’t feel a fucking thing. What is it then. It’s supposed to provoke something and make you want something. Whatever it is, you don’t know. Buy Modalert, It’s supposed to make you tingle. It’s supposed to make you want something like a craving. That’s what somebody’s voice can do and not necessarily just Black artists. It’s a thing that somebody has.

Nu Soul: So is there a full length album coming out, buy Modalert overnight delivery.
Tiombe Lockhart: There’ll be a full length, when I have a company backing me, buy Modalert. Once I have a company backing me, once I can take my band, which has been very loyal to me, and properly record something, properly mix something, and I don’t have to do it. When we can just do it right. I do everything. It’s not discrediting the people that do work on my project because they are amazing, but in terms of my own business I have to take care of. Buy Modalert, There will absolutely be a full length. Maybe even a double disc. Once I get into the right setting and I don’t have to worry so much like did I pay my rent. To where I can be in the studio and be with my band or be with myself so I can make the beats properly.

Nu Soul: Have you received any offers.
Tiombe Lockhart: There have been, but I don’t think it’s the right set up, buy Modalert. Billige Modalert apotek, I don’t think it’s the right meeting of minds. Until that happens, I’ll just keep doing what I’m doing now.

Nu Soul: Since you’re your own PR person, does it ever get overwhelming.
Tiombe Lockhart: Yes. Buy Modalert, It’s a lot of work. It’s constant work and then to be social. It’s two separate worlds for myself. One is being young and socializing, performing, being very much in front of people, being witty and whatever the fuck it is. Then there’s the other side. I’m very much a social retard and I can’t get it together and I’m in my studio writing, buy Modalert. So to take on the two different positions is a little difficult, but it’s all good. Tiombe Lockhart: I have. I did take a break before PPP. I don’t now because I learned that God will make everything okay. Not on some psycho religious shit. In a way of I really should be where I am right now, buy Modalert. Before PPP, I decided that I wasn’t going to do this anymore and it’s very strange how I got pulled back into music.

Nu Soul: At the time, what made you not do it anymore.
Tiombe Lockhart: I had just been doing it for so long. I’ve been singing for a long time. Buy Modalert, I was just tired. It was also a very immature sense. Kind of like a sense of entitlement. Maine ME Me. , You can get it confused. I mean of course when you’re in the studio you’re supposed to believe this is the best shit. You better be fucking arrogant, if you’re on stage, buy Modalert. You better not take that off stage, but you got to fucking believe that shit. When you’re younger, you get it confused and you think that you don’t have to work because this is what it is. So that’s what that was.

Nu Soul: Because you can write, produce and sing, do you feel you have creative independence and would you like to keep that, when you do get signed.
Tiombe Lockhart: Buy Modalert, I’d definitely like to keep the creativity that I do have. I don’t necessarily feel I need your normal team that would come along with your major recording artist. I don’t need a stylist. I know who I’d hire and what I’d do, if I had the backing behind me. It’s just a matter of getting it out there, Massachusetts MA Mass. . I don’t think a smart company would let me relinquish it, buy Modalert. It wouldn’t even be this battle; it would be like ‘okay this is going somewhere new and fresh.’ Rather than going through the whole run of the mill type of thing. It would be kind of strange for the people who do listen to the music now.

I’m a Libra. So if something makes sense to me, I’m going to be like okay let’s give it a whirl. Buy Modalert, I’m never closed off to anything, but at the same time I’m very, very sure of what I’m doing at this point. I don’t see there to be any excuses to pull back or to do something different.

Nu Soul: My favorite song on Queen of Doom is ‘Working Girl’s Suicide.” What inspired you to write it.
Tiombe Lockhart: I love it when people ask me about this song, because honestly it’s my favorite song. I have not given up [because] I want to mix that song correctly. I want to record it correctly, buy Modalert. I want to record it with my band. I love that song. Believe it or not, motherfuckers who are independent artist have sometimes to work. So, I’m going to my job and for some reason the L [train] and we all had to take the G [train] to some stop. I get out and you have to walk a minute or two to this other place. There’s the rolling escalator, but it’s flat. There’s people on there and there’s people and myself like I’m not getting on that shit, buy Modalert. For some reason I didn’t get on, but I felt like a robot. Everyone’s going to this place and everyone’s going to work. Obviously working class people, like myself. The whole inspiration, for this song, came from being on this train, hung over or seeing people who are hung over, ordering Modalert online. Buy Modalert, We’re all in this fucking shit. Everyone would love to be with their boyfriend or girl friend, just stay in bed and everybody maybe smoked a little too much weed and feels a little off. It’s just [about] trying to hold it together. It’s so many different aspects of really going to work, trying to work and feeling like you’re really hung over and about to fall.

Nu Soul: You still work a regular day job.
Tiombe Lockhart: Oh honey, yes, buy Modalert. I think if I didn’t work at that point I wouldn’t have wrote that song. Of course, I don’t necessarily want to work, but I got to do what I got to do. I’m a secretary. I kind of see it as a sexy secretary. Buy Modalert, It’s kind of a working girls blues.

The suicide comes in because I love the band, Suicide, Kentucky KY Ky. , a lot. A lot of the sense I put in there, I’m not going to even pretend that I’ll sound anything like they ever did because I love them too much, but a lot of it sounds like it.

Nu Soul: What’s up with the Armadillo on the Cover.
Tiombe Lockhart: The armadillo was a gift to my boyfriend. It’s dead, buy Modalert. First we did the photo shoot and I was like I want to be sitting on some kind of animal. The armadillo came about. It was like I wanted to do a movie poster. The armadillo was perfect. Buy Modalert, How amazing would a large armadillo be as your fucking pet.

Nu Soul: Since you’ve been singing since you were young, why did you study vocal jazz performance, at Manhattan’s The New School University, instead of production or any other music related mechanics.
Tiombe Lockhart: At the time, when I was in high school, I liked music theory, I like algebra [and] I like things that made sense to me, but there wasn’t a whole lot of schools to pick from. There was Berklee College of Music and sure there are a lot of people who came from that school who are doing a lot of things other than classical, but how the theory and teachings went from a classical stand point. New School was jazz and I thought that was the closest thing to where I was coming from. Now, when I started going there, I thought it would be kind of different, but it was very straight ahead jazz and I didn’t really know too much about that, buy Modalert. I listened to Ella Fitzgerald, but I don’t listen to her at all now. I can hear a lot of the samples and a lot of the samples came from jazz records, but they weren’t necessarily straight ahead jazz. They were 70s jazz. So that’s why I decided to go there.
