Strictly Social is proud to present THE NU-SOUL MAGAZINE 3-YEAR ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
Wednesday October 21, 2009
Launched in October 2006, Nu-Soul Magazine has blossomed into a focal point of the international progressive soul community with in-depth interviews, comprehensive reviews, and top level events. For our third anniversary we are going all out with an impressive roster of critically acclaimed talent, gift bags, special vendors, and other surprises!
Featuring performances from:
JOY JONES
Afro-beat lullabies, future jazz protest songs and electronic hymns is how Joy Jones would best describe the collection of ditties that is her debut full-length album, Godchild. As a kid, Joy was exposed to an array of different styles of music ranging from gospel, soca, classical, African choral music, soul and jazz – and this, along with inspirational places and events, all helped prompt Joy Jones to put her heart and soul into music. Be prepared for a truly eclectic performance from this honorary Ladybug in the Attic.

DIVINE BROWN
For years, musical powerhouse Divine Brown (formerly Divine Earth Essence) has been quietly carving out her own history on the Canadian R&B and soul circuit. Divine has returned with a tour-de-force album, a virtual trip through both the last half-century of soul music and the roller-coaster ride of love dubbed – appropriately – The Love Chronicles. The Love Chronicles spans everything from bop-shoo-bop secret crush confessions to sassy surf ‘n’ soul kiss-offs to sultry late-night neo-soul, all held together by Divine’s magnificent, shape-shifting voice.
PAOLA JEAN
Paola Jean crafts authentic music. With each song on Right On Time, the multi-national songstress weaves a compelling full-length album textured with haunting organic and electric instrumentation, soul-stirring guitar melodies and riveting funk, which to the virgin listener, sounds influenced by the likes of Jill Scott, India.Arie, Alicia Keys and Adriana Evans.
Resident DJs Destroyer & Myxzlplix will be spinning a selection of future soul, organic hip-hop and electronic beats!
