Various Artists – Independent Soul Divas 2

DIVASArtist: Various Artists
Title: Independent Soul Artists 2 – Tokyo Rush
Label: Lola Waxx Records
Genre: Soul, R&B

“It’s the melody which is the charm of music. It is also the most difficult to produce. The invention of fine melody is a work of a genius” Joseph Haydn (1732-1809)

It’s the element of music which makes the widest and most direct appeal. It’s the soul of music. It’s what we remember, whistle and hum. It’s a challenge to explain, but once you hear it your sonic senses are heightened from cloud nine all the way to seventh heaven! It’s the plot, the theme of a musical composition.

It’s where we derive a conscious impression from a musical arrangement. Each word a lyric in relation to the thought as a whole. It builds tension as it rises from one level to the next and retains its drive until the final note .

That’s the journey through the mind, you’ll experience listening to Independent Soul Divas 2. It’s as if you are being drip-fed low end frequencies as the jazzy soul music captivates your whole being. Borders between self and sonic become blurred as the visceral soul music whispers you into submission.

Although I can’t seem to identify what the connection is with Tokyo, considering its sub-title “Tokyo Rush” this compilation however is a blissfully sweet rendering of the best neo-soul music . A definite declaration of sensuality combined with musical talent.

First, there’s a welcome return for Miss Adina Howard. Adina debuts for Lola Waxx with “What Do I Do”, showing a more versatile, serious and soulful dimension to her. The groove is a 21st Century Brand New Heavies influenced concoction but the vocals are Adina Howard all over. An exclusive to this album, “What Do I Do” will gain new territory for the lady whilst is sure to surprise and please her fans.

Independent Soul Divas 2 also features brand new singles by Lea Lorien, LeNora Jaye, Rena Scott, Maya Neiada. Kelli Sae, Razzberry, D’Cheri and Lori Jenaire. Then there’s Sy Smith, Rachel Brown, Melissa Young, Lina, Tracy Cruz and Kendra Ross.

And if that isn’t enough, Aura Jackson’s anthemic “Walk After U” (also known as “Tingle in My Toes”), gets a well-deserved UK outing at last. It’s equal measure of style , soul and passion! A sophisticated modern interpretation of soul music. Right from the beginning you are treated to some sultry, crisp mid-tempo to soulful, jazzy housey grooves. So do yourself a favor, if you feel that you’ve been drowning in the sea of dumb, dead and cheesed -out records, thoughtlessly put together – lend a ear to this compilation and EXHALE. Its put together with passion. Nuff said!
