Y-Love – This Is Babylon
Artist: Y-Love
Title: This is Babylon
Label: Modular Moods
Genre: Hip-Hop/Electronica
Y-Love enters the hip-hop game with a unique album-
This is Babylon. Known as a hip-hop revolutionary, Y-love fuses English, Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic and Latin into a 14-track, beat heavy album. On “Bump” a super cool, head-banging beat is the foundation for Y-Love to bring the “positive vibe”. Y-Love can definitely join the ranks of conscious hip-hop artists with his lyrics throughout the album. Lyrics like “I’m tired of my people building ghettos in the mental” and “you can’t get through the text if you’re addicted to sex” are just a bit of what you’ll hear on
This is Babylon. Not your traditional hip-hop album, electronic sounds are infused in most of Y-Love’s music. Y-Love, or Yitz Jordan, converted to Hassidism and that influence can be felt throughout the album and can perhaps explain the mélange of sounds, languages, culture and overall vibe of
This is Babylon. In terms of skills, Jordan comes with a sound reminiscent of Mos Def and on some tracks resembles Talib Kweli. “This is a Test” sets the stage for “State of the Nation,” an Arabic infused beat with a deep message from Y-Love- “unify…do or die”.
Throughout
This is Babylon Y-Love sends meaningful messages through the power of his words, languages, and style, creating his own path into conscious hip-hop, possibly even innovating it.
